Alex Harrell
In the Spotlight
Alex Harrell is an actor and writer who likes to dabble in being a stagehand or artist. He is currently finishing up his senior year at Iowa State University and will soon be the owner of a BA in performing arts.
He believes theatre is a way to connect communities through the countless stories they can bring to the surface. As someone who is both mixed-race and LGBT, he is always pushing to lift the stories of both of these groups up. There is no better feeling to Alex than knowing he was able to make someone feel seen in his art. Bringing or creating representation for any group he is a part of is very important to him
Alex chose to focus on writing and theatre because it's where he feels his skills allowed him to achieve his activism goals. He is occasionally soft-spoken off stage, so being able to channel all of his emotions and feelings into a character either on stage or in a book/script lets him portray a variety of characters who range from quiet and nervous to loud and in charge.
Behind the Scenes
I grew up in Houston, Texas, before moving to central Iowa for school. Although I long to be within driving distance of a beach again, the Houston heat was not for me. I would also miss being around snow.
I am a big animal lover who has a special place in my heart for dogs, birds, and amphibians. When I'm not in rehearsal or writing, I usually work hard training my service dog, Eros, or I take care of my little animal family.
While I have made trips spanning the United States, plus a few destinations out of the country I want to one day visit all 50 states and all the big national parks!
That leaves a lot of work to get done to achieve those goals. I guess I better get back to it.
